Madden's Big Day

This post was written, for the most part, on the opening day of the NFL season. I had planned to post it that night, only my internet went down about halfway through the game and I stopped. Unfortunately for you, here's what's leftover from that fateful night...

6:55 pm - Coming to you live from the Stately Young Manor, as Dan the Younger once called it. I'm here with Michelle, Bryan, a couple of Miller Lites, Sebbie and Smokey. Sebbie and Smokey, two of Michelle's cats, are here for morale support and so that somebody who has the same mental capabilities as Mr. Madden.

6:59 - Bryan is rooting for Reggie Bush to have a big day. Myself, I'm more or less neutral.

7:01 - Kelly Clarkson is the singer NBC chose to kick off the season. I was ok with Pink as their leading lady last year, but I'm not so sure about Kelly Clarkson. I know it's a live performance, but I can't understand what she's saying. According to Bryan, the first song was "horrible." Good to see that the NFL party is geting kicked off correctly.

7:04 - Tonight's attendance is 57,000. Whoo!

7:07 - The following exchange between Bryan and I:

Me: What do you think the score will be tonight?

Bryan: Hopefully, Reggie Bush a lot, Colts, I don't care.

Nice to see that he's rooting for one team.

7:09 - John Cougar Mellancamp is singing Small Town. Uhhh, which one are we referring to John? Indianapolis or New Orleans? Good call on the song choice Cougar.

7:12 - Bryan brings up a good point: Running backs who can't catch. In reality, it looks more like the system they are set up in. If you look at Warrick Dunn, for example, it's not that he can't catch the ball, but rather that the offense isn't really set up to pass the ball to him. More likely, the offense was set up for Michael Vick to pass the ball in the near vicinity of Dunn at the maximum velocity.

7:27 - Rich Eisen, "It's now time for football people." I think Eisen needs to get some new writers. His suit looked pretty damn good though.

7:28 - Have the Heineken people lost their minds? Their new commercial with the dancing keg girls is really extremely creepy. Although Bryan says he wouldn't mind because she'd always have a keg of Heineken around. Nice to know he can get past the whole creepy thing.

7:37 - The Eagle has landed. Evidently Reggie Bush's nickname is the President. I don't know how much I would go with that nickname. Probably look for something else.

7:41 - Joseph Addai was down for a little while. Peyton Manning lead him directly into a linebacker and safety. Whoops. Way to hang him out to dry Peyton. Greatest quarterback my ass.

7:45 - Reggie Bush returned the first punt of the year and didn't really go anywhere with it. I don't blame him as the coverage was pretty good.

7:47 - How do you think Marlin Jackson feel saying that he's a Michigan graduation? Embarassed? Reluctant? Do you think the university would dislike it if he didn't say he was from Michigan?

7:54 - What's up with Peyton's crazy dream commercial? I'm not sure I get it and we've seen it three times already. It's already pissing Bryan off and even Michelle says it's stupid. "It's stupid unless you like guys who are 6'5'' with a lazer, rocket arm." Thanks Bryan.

7:59 - Madden on Marvin Harrison - "He's one of my favorite receivers." Yeah...I'd say most people would say that.

8:01 - And Harrison schools Jason David, who looked lost on the play. Touchdown Colts. Manning to Harrison. I've got a hunch this connection might be good for something. Oh, and I think that the Saint's owners is happy about his 3 million dollar investment in Jason David.

8:02 - "I don't want Reggie Bush returning kicks unless he's guarenteed a touchdown." I'm not sure how we're going to accomodate that request Bryan, but we'll give it our best.

8:06 - Eric Johnson just got popped by Anton Bethea.

8:07 - Drew Brees just had a pass batted back to him and he tried to get the first down. No dice, but I like the effort.

8:13 - Addai is getting his running going while Al & John blubber about how great Peyton Manning is. How about you guys could quit slobbering over Manning and call the game? That'd would be nice.

8:16 - John Madden thinks that Joseph Addai could have a big year if he stays healthy. This was the leading article in the scientific magazine Duh!

8:17 - Jason David, who was completely burned earlier, gets his revenge on Reggie Wayne, stripping the ball and taking it to the house. Now Saints owner Tom Benson is happy about his 3 million dollar investment.

8:17 - "These defenders have become so good at stripping." - John Madden. Bryan's comment - "These defenders have become so good at stripping that they've supplimented their income..."

8:20 - This is our country!

8:22 - Just saw pictures of the Outback Steakhouse Bus driving around the Indianapolis 500. They should have had the Madden Bus race the Outback Bus for five laps. I would have paid to watch that. I later learned that the Outback Steakhouse Bus is the Madden Bus. Alas, no race will take place unless it's a race to see how fast Madden can start slobbering over a Turducken.

8:28 - Aaron Stecker just ran for 13 yards. There's half of his production for the season.

8:29 - Marcus Colston just got gang tackled. I think the prisoners are jealous.

8:43 - Reggie Bush just got run down by Rob Morris. "Do you believe in miracles?"
